The Low Barrier Shelter is a 21 bed overnight shelter for individuals over the age of 18 who are currently experiencing immediate homelessness.

The Low Barrier Shelter provides temporary, safe and supportive overnight shelter accommodating individuals who may be experiencing barriers such as mental health concerns, addictions or criminal history.
Guests are engaged in a dignified manner while being provided basic needs, access to community resources, advocacy and support from staff as they work through the obstacles and challenges they are facing.
How to access:
Individuals are to present in person at 8:00pm on the night they are requiring service. The shelter is first come first served and beds cannot be held or booked in advance.
Northern Pines 1
Northern Pines 1 is a 16-unit Transitional Housing program staffed 24/7. The program offers support to assist individuals in learning the skills necessary to successfully live on their own. Services include goal planning, independent living skills training and connection to community supports.

Occupants of Northern Pines Transitional Housing are provided with their own bedroom/bathroom and share common living space with other occupants of their floor.
They receive staff support and guidance based on individual needs. Participation in daily and nightly programming is also required to facilitate relevant skills acquisition and movement towards independence.
How to apply:
Applications can be sent directly to the District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board (DNSSAB) where they are screened for eligibility. Applicants must be 18 years/older. Once deemed eligible, a tour and interview are scheduled to review the program and discuss potential goals. Applications, along with references, are then reviewed by a committee where final admission decisions are made.
Northern Pines 2
Northern Pines 2 is a long-term independent living program that provides affordable and safe living accommodations for adults in 20 single apartment units. The program offers an on-site Housing Coordinator to provide accountability and a therapeutic process for occupants to improve their situations and transition to longer term stable housing situations.

The program provides accommodations for individuals who have, or who are, experiencing homelessness. This program is geared towards a lower income population experiencing significant barriers to housing due to a variety of contributing factors.
All occupants of Northern Pines 2 are part of an independent living program. There is a Housing Coordinator available to help connect occupants with any supports required, to complete monthly room checks and to provide advocacy and system navigation education for occupants when warranted.
